“Working and learning together to improve children’s lives”

There is strong governance at all levels throughout YCAT and this is vital for our continued success.  Our governance approach adopts an organic leadership model focusing on adaptability at all levels and responding quickly to the changing needs of our schools. It is built on cooperation and involvement from all who work in and serve our trust.

Members, Trustees and individual school governing bodies are the key drivers for sustained improvement of YCAT.

The Members bring a wealth of experience from education, legal, business, banking and HR. Their role is to hold Trustees and schools to account for the impact their leadership and management has on improving children’s outcomes and meeting the trust’s aims, principles and values.

Meet our members

The Trustees have been recruited for their experience in the education sector, finance, business, HR and property.  They are responsible for setting the overall strategy for YCAT, focused on outcomes for our pupils, and for checking performance and impact of this strategy.  The Trustees have responsibility for overall management of resources across YCAT and for compliance with legal requirements. Trustees will set policies for YCAT.

In addition to main board meetings, the Trustees carry out their role through two key groups, the Finance, Resources, Audit and Risk Committee and the School Improvement Leadership Group.

Meet our Trustees

Our Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) hold their school to account, focusing on pupil outcomes, managing financial performance and ensuring compliance with YCAT Policies. The LGBs have a key role in promoting safeguarding and welfare of the children.  The LGBs also ensure that each school retains its unique character and strong links with the local community.

LGB Support

A consistent approach to Local Governance has been developed across YCAT.  A member of the Central YCAT team is dedicated to providing support to the LGBs and ensuring consistent information flow between Trustees and LGBs. This includes a termly opportunity for meeting together and training.

We have a bespoke induction programme for all new governors and trustees.
